About Kaicast
Built by a diver, for divers
Kaicast didn't start as a startup. It started as a personal problem — one bad dive too many, and a decision to do something about it.
The problem
Tired of guessing
I'd spent years working on charter boats and diving the waters of Hawaii — spearfishing, freediving, and living as close to the ocean as you can get. But when life got busy and dive days became rare, every trip had to count. The problem was that figuring out actual underwater conditions was a mess. Backengineering surf reports. Checking wind apps. Calling around. Hoping for the best. And still showing up to a spot that wasn't worth the drive.
"I was tired of guessing what the conditions were like — or back-engineering Surfline to try to get an idea, and showing up to a spot I really shouldn't have."
— Dawson Johnson, founder
How it started
A tool built just for me
So I built something for myself. Not a product, not a company — just a way to know what was actually out there before getting in the water. Something that pulled together the right data and gave a real answer. I kept it quiet, used it on my own dives, and it worked. Then my friends started asking.
Our Mission
To give everyone in the water — divers, freedivers, spearos, and ocean lovers — real insight into what's actually happening out there, so every session is a better one.
